About Us

our story

In the early stages of this business, I’ve gotten one question a lot: Why The Happy Lobster?

My answer is always, “Because no one wants to eat at the Sad Lobster Truck.” In reality, the idea came from a conversation with one of my college professors that I will never forget. He explained to me that there was a difference between someone’s “job” and “purpose.” Your job, he explained, was a list of tasks or duties that you were responsible for.

Your purpose, on the other hand, was WHY you were doing your job. What was the preferred outcome? Who were you affecting? How were you affecting them? The name of our truck came from having that conversation again.

Our job is to bring you the best, freshest lobster in Chicago. The lobster we serve is caught fresh everyday in Maine. Our bread is baked fresh everyday right here in Chicago. We are confident in our ability to do our job.

Food is about so much more than the act of eating. It’s about grabbing lunch with a co-worker or catching up with a friend. It’s about trying new things. And, of course, it’s about enjoying a terrific meal. The purpose of the Happy Lobster Truck is to bring people happiness through great food. From the end of the line to enjoying your lobster roll, from dining at our truck to interacting with us on social media, we will always do our best to put a smile on your face.

At the Happy Lobster Truck we know that doing our job will be easy, but fulfilling our purpose will not. Our promise is to work every day to do just that.
